HIM SPECIALIST
About The Position
The HIM Specialist supports the integrity, accessibility, and confidentiality of patient health information. The role may include paper record retrieval, preparation and scanning, electronic health record (EHR) document management and analysis, deficiency identification, release of information support, and other health information management functions. The Specialist works collaboratively within the HIM department and with clinical departments, providers, patients, and external partners to support efficient workflows, timely record completion, regulatory compliance, and patient health information management.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- At least one year of experience in a hospital or outpatient clinic setting, or one year of healthcare-related college coursework as a substitute.
Nice To Haves
- Associate degree in health information management or current enrollment in an associate degree program in health information management.
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credential.
Responsibilities
- Retrieve, prepare, and scan paper records.
- Manage and analyze electronic health record (EHR) documents.
- Identify deficiencies in health information records.
- Support release of information activities.
- Perform other health information management functions.
- Collaborate with the HIM department, clinical departments, providers, patients, and external partners to support efficient workflows, timely record completion, regulatory compliance, and patient health information management.
