This full-time position is responsible for abstracting clinical data within the Health Information Management (HIM) department. The role involves navigating electronic health records (EHR) and various computer applications to support patient care, revenue cycle, and regulatory compliance. Key duties include preparing and scanning clinical documentation, analyzing laboratory reports for accuracy and compliance with regulations like CAP Accreditation and CLIA, and entering data using optical character recognition software. The abstractor will identify and release laboratory tests, select correct order templates, and discretely abstract and import laboratory results and other clinical documentation into the EHR, ensuring accurate flagging of normal and abnormal findings. The role also requires maintaining security and protection of Protected Health Information (PHI) in accordance with HIPAA, adapting to evolving laboratory standards, validating data, troubleshooting issues, and performing quality assurance on scanned documents. Communication with internal departments and external laboratories is also a part of the role.
