This full-time position is responsible for abstracting clinical data within the Health Information Management (HIM) department. The role involves navigating various electronic health record (EHR) and computer applications to support patient care, care management, revenue cycle, health maintenance, and regulatory requirements. Key duties include receiving, sorting, preparing, and scanning clinical documentation into the EHR, analyzing non-interfaced patient laboratory reports for accuracy and compliance, and utilizing optical character recognition software for data entry. The abstractor will identify, create, and release laboratory tests, apply medical terminology, and ensure accurate data entry of laboratory values, comments, and other relevant information. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, critical thinking for issue identification and troubleshooting, and adherence to HIPAA regulations for PHI protection. The position also involves quality assurance of scanned documents, error correction, and communication with internal and external laboratories. The role may require travel and exposure to various weather conditions.
