By joining our Clark County Unit as a Highway Technician Superintendent I in Clark County, you’ll have the opportunity to supervise employees in repair of road and highway maintenance, oversee highway maintenance projects and inspect work for completion.

Requirements

  • Must have ten years of construction or highway maintenance experience.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a Class A commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement to qualify for employment in this job classification.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
  • Incumbents in this job title typically perform their work at a highway maintenance facility or section office, at work sites throughout the assigned work area and when necessary, district wide.
  • Incumbent will be exposed to risks inherent to working with large equipment and machines involved with road construction.
  • Must be able to work extended hours and be outside during inclement weather.
  • Must be able to respond to emergencies 24/7.
  • Should be able to respond to emergencies and should be able to lift and carry 50 lbs, work, sit, stoop and bend.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience interpreting department policies and procedures
  • Experience with snow and ice removal as well as other emergencies
  • Experience with highway maintenance and repair of roads
  • Experience with coordinating and inspecting highway contract work
  • Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in engineering technology, construction management, engineering science, engineering mechanics, geology, earth science, industrial drafting, design technology, construction technology, or a related field will substitute for two (2) years of the highway related experience in construction and maintenance.
  • Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering will substitute for four (4) years of the highway related experience in construction and maintenance.
  • Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in Engineering Technology with completion of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Civil Engineering Technology Scholarship Program will substitute for six (6) years of highway related experience in construction or maintenance.
  • College coursework related to any of these fields will substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and assist employees in maintenance and repair of roads, bridges, and landslide repairs
  • Provide technical assistance and oversight on highway maintenance projects and inspect work for completion
  • Coordinate and inspect highway contract work
  • Respond to and supervise snow and ice removal and other emergencies
