By joining our Fayette County Unit as a Highway Technician Assistant I in Fayette County, you’ll have the opportunity to take advantage of classroom and in-field trainings to allow for continued education to become specialized in road and construction maintenance and operations.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification.
  • Within 12 months of employment in this job classification, employees in this classification must furnish the agency's appointing authority with documentation that he or she holds a valid Class B commercial driver's license.
  • Within one year of employment in this job classification, the employee must complete First Aid and Snow and Ice Training and must possess Traffic Control/Flagger and OSHA 10 Certifications or equivalent.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
  • Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on rough terrain and in changing climates
  • Experience in equipment operation for road maintenance
  • Experience preforming preventative maintenance on vehicles or equipment
  • Experience with general labor or trades

Responsibilities

  • Haul materials to and from job sites
  • Operate dump trucks with snow plow and salt spreader to work in the winter months
  • Operate a tractor-type mowing machine, assist in brush cutting
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools for maintenance activities, learn the basics of surveying.
  • Flag for operations requiring traffic control.
