By joining our Project Delivery and Preservation Branch as a Highway Technician I in Jefferson County, you’ll have the opportunity to coordinate the work of others that are part of the maintenance team.

Requirements

  • High school graduate.
  • Must have four years of construction or highway maintenance experience.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a Class A commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement to qualify for employment in this job classification.
  • The employee must successfully complete the KYTC Highway Technician Academy Level 2 or equivalent within one year of employment in this job classification.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in engineering technology, construction management, engineering science, engineering mechanics, geology, earth science, industrial drafting, design technology, construction technology or a related field will substitute for two (2) years of the highway related experience in construction and maintenance.
  • Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering will substitute for four (4) years of the highway related experience in construction and maintenance.
  • College coursework related to any of these fields will substitute for experience on a year- for-year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment such as boom saw, excavator or self-propelled paver
  • Complete daily inspection reports
  • Quality assurance inspector
  • Coordinate crew assignments
  • Train new employees
