By joining our Clark County Unit as a Highway Technician Assistant II in Clark County, you’ll have the opportunity to take advantage of classroom and in-field trainings to allow for continued education to become specialized in road and construction maintenance and operations.

Requirements

  • Must have two years of construction or highway maintenance experience.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a Class B commercial driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification.
  • The employee must successfully complete the KYTC Highway Technician Academy Level 1 or equivalent within one year of employment in this job classification.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on rough terrain and in changing climates
  • Experience in equipment operation for road maintenance
  • Experience completing shift or on-call schedules
  • Experience in snow and ice plowing skills
  • Commercial Driver License
  • Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in engineering technology, construction management, engineering science, engineering mechanics, geology, earth science, industrial drafting, design technology, construction technology, or a related field will substitute for two (2) years of the highway related experience in construction and maintenance.
  • College coursework related to any of these fields will substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Haul materials to and from job sites
  • Operate dump trucks with snow plow and salt spreader to work in the winter months
  • Operate a tractor-type mowing machine, assist in brush cutting, and use chemical sprayers
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools for maintenance activities, learn the basics of surveying
  • Flagging for operations requiring traffic control.
