About The Position

The selected candidate will be placed in the classification in which they meet minimum qualifications. This role involves serving the public and working to make the roads in Ohio safer. Responsibilities include attending training to obtain CDL licensure if not already a licensed CDL holder, performing various highway maintenance activities such as flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, and mowing, and conducting snow and ice operations. This is a permanent, overtime-eligible position, subject to a one-year probationary period for bargaining unit new hires.

Requirements

  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary (for HMW1)
  • Must obtain Class B Commercial Drivers License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction (for HMW1)
  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & decimals, percentages & fractions; ability to read, write & speak common English vocabulary (for HT1)
  • 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in operation of basic equipment (for HT1)
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction (for HT1)
  • Undergo a criminal background check
  • Submit to urinalysis to test for illegal drug use prior to appointments
  • Register as a driver in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse
  • Authorized to work in the United States
