About The Position

The State of Ohio is hiring a Permanent Highway Maintenance Worker 1 (HMW1) or Highway Technician 1 (HT1) in Lake County, Painesville. The selected candidate will be placed in the classification for which they meet the minimum qualifications. This role involves serving the public by contributing to Ohio's road safety through various maintenance activities, including flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, and mowing. The position also requires participation in snow and ice operations to ensure safe travel during winter conditions. Duties may extend beyond these examples.

Requirements

  • For Highway Maintenance Worker 1: Formal education in arithmetic (addition & subtraction) and in reading, writing, & speaking common English vocabulary. Must obtain Class B Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.
  • For Highway Technician 1: Formal education in arithmetic (addition & subtraction, decimals, percentages & fractions); ability to read, write & speak common English vocabulary; 3 months training or 3 months experience in operation of basic equipment. Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.
  • All candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • All bargaining unit new hires must serve a one (1) year probationary period.
  • Selected applicants are required to register as a driver in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse.
  • Must undergo a criminal background check.
  • Must undergo urinalysis to test for illegal drug use.
  • Prohibited from using marijuana, including medical marijuana.

Nice To Haves

  • Class A or Class B CDL with Tanker Endorsement (for Highway Technician 1)

Responsibilities
