About The Position

This position serves the public by working to make the roads in Ohio safer. The selected candidate will be placed in the classification of Highway Maintenance Worker 1 (HMW1) or Highway Technician 1 (HT1) based on their qualifications. Responsibilities include performing highway maintenance activities such as flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, and mowing, as well as performing snow and ice operations. The role is overtime eligible and requires a probationary period for new bargaining unit hires. The final candidate will undergo a criminal background check and urinalysis for illegal drug use. This position is subject to federal testing regulations and requires registration as a driver in the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse. Medical marijuana is prohibited as a valid medical explanation for a positive drug test.

Requirements

  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction.
  • Ability to read, write & speak common English vocabulary.
  • Must obtain Class B Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction.
  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction, decimals, percentages & fractions (for HT1).
  • 3 months training or 3 months experience in operation of basic equipment (for HT1).
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement without airbrake restriction (for HT1).

Responsibilities

  • Serve the public and work to make the roads in Ohio safer.
  • Attend training to obtain CDL licensure; if not already a licensed CDL holder.
  • Perform highway maintenance activities; including flagging, pothole patching, repairing guardrails, litter pickup, mowing.
  • Perform snow & ice operations.
