About The Position

The Town of Essex is hiring a Highway Maintenance Foreman Class IV. This supervisory role combines skilled manual work and equipment operation with directing public works crews on projects and snow and ice removal. The Foreman provides day-to-day oversight and guidance to as many as eight full-time employees and several seasonal or temporary employees assigned to specific jobs. The position involves frequent contact with other public works employees and the general public to respond to complaints and questions. This is a full-time hourly position covered by the AFSCME union contract. Regular hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, although hours may vary according to municipal needs. Overtime is required during the winter season. The pay range is $32.00 to $40.00 per hour, depending on experience. Requirements

Eight years of experience in highway maintenance, construction procedures and methods, equipment operations, and some leadership roles.
Three winter seasons of experience performing winter plowing with a heavy-duty dump truck equipped with a plow or wing.
Thorough working knowledge of the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
At minimum, a valid Class B commercial driver's license.
