High-Speed Analog & Mixed-Signal PHY Design Engineer

Qualcomm•San Diego, CA
•$121,800 - $182,600

About The Position

Qualcomm's Mixed-Signal PHY design team is seeking an analog and mixed-signal circuit designer to work on SerDes PHY designs. The engineer will contribute to next-generation PHY designs for SoCs and join a growing team conducting architecture analysis in leading-edge CMOS process technology nodes at 7nm and beyond. Design goals include low-power analog circuits for Qualcomm's wireline interface needs. The role's primary responsibility is to work within a team to deliver analog and mixed-signal transistor-level circuit designs and supervise physical layouts of high-speed, low-power PHY SerDes blocks. Experience with transceiver or clocking designs above 32 Gbps is highly desired.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and 2+ years of experience with analog or mixed-signal integrated circuit design in nanometer planar CMOS or FinFET, plus 2+ years of ASIC design, verification, or related work experience; alternatively, a master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field and 2+ years of ASIC design, verification, or related work experience; or a PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience using one or more design tools, such as CADENCE, SPICE, MATLAB, and/or Verilog/VHDL.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with transceiver or clocking design above 32 Gbps.
  • PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in analog/mixed-signal integrated CMOS circuit design in an area such as VCO, PLL, or DLL design; Audio CODEC or Class D audio amplifier design; Delta-Sigma or SAR ADCs; current-steering DACs; high-speed DDR PHYs; or high-speed SERDES.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to architecture and circuit designs for one or more blocks using appropriate tools or databases, and participate in design reviews.
  • Work with layout teams to oversee block-level layout of one or more blocks.
  • Define and run simulations and analyses, such as power and performance analyses; document and use results to improve and verify designs.
  • Program and run tests to identify bugs in own work, help more junior team members do the same, debug most issues, and escalate highly complex issues.
  • Consult with internal or external users as directed to assist with implementation and achieve goal alignment.
  • Maintain understanding of one's technical domain and build understanding of other domains to ensure integration with different components.
  • Write detailed technical documentation and design descriptions to guide users and/or customers.
  • Collaborate with team members to generate ideas.

Benefits

  • Competitive annual discretionary bonus program.
  • Opportunity for annual RSU grants (employees on sales-incentive plans are not eligible for the annual bonus).
  • Competitive benefits package designed to support employees at work, at home, and at play.
