About The Position

The Cottonwood School offers dynamic homeschooling pathways for TK-12, providing a personalized, whole-learner approach that nurtures academic, social, and emotional achievement. As a tuition-free, public charter school serving specific counties, we emphasize an integrative approach where education extends beyond academics to include social, emotional, and academic development. Our Homestudy Pathway offers holistic learning through various activities, while our Cottonwood College Prep Academy is a hybrid on-site High School Pathway featuring Montessori-inspired project-based learning that encourages collaboration and creativity. The CVA (Cottonwood Virtual Academy) High School Teacher plays a hybrid role, acting as an academic partner for a caseload of high school students, designing graduation plans, monitoring progress, and supporting students and families. This role also involves instructional duties, potentially teaching synchronous live classes, overseeing asynchronous flex courses, or both, ensuring consistent pacing, feedback, and grading. This specific position is for a Live 9th-grade ELA teacher, with asynchronous course support and grading for grades 9-12, and advisory duties for academy students, supporting CVA High School's blended model.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Valid California Single Subject Credential.
  • Required authorizations: EL Authorization.
  • Basic proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive).
  • Basic proficiency in virtual communication platforms (e.g., Zoom, Google Chat).
  • AB 2534 Verification.
  • Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Clearance (Risk Assessment or Skin Test).
  • I-9 Verification (Appropriate US Work Permits as required).
  • Complete Required Mandatory Trainings for School Employees.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working at an independent study charter school.
  • Experience using educational technology platforms (e.g., LMS/SIS systems such as Pathways, Clever, or Google Classroom) to support instruction.
  • Experience providing instruction in a synchronous online setting.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of high school students as their primary academic partner.
  • Design personalized four-year graduation plans.
  • Monitor student progress.
  • Support students and families in navigating the CVA HS academy model.
  • Teach synchronous live classes.
  • Oversee asynchronous flex courses.
  • Maintain consistent pacing, feedback, and grading across assigned courses.
  • Provide instruction in a live 9th-grade ELA capacity.
  • Provide asynchronous course support and grading for grades 9-12.
  • Serve as an advisor for academy students.
