About The Position

Freire Schools is a network of four charter schools in Philadelphia and Delaware dedicated to preparing students from underserved communities for college and beyond. TECH Freire Charter School, a college-prep high school (grades 9-12) in north Philadelphia, integrates technology and entrepreneurship education. The school fosters a culture of excellence and provides strong student support, evidenced by high college acceptance rates and significant scholarship earnings for its graduates. This long-term substitute position is for a High School Math Teacher, beginning in December and concluding in March, with potential for extension.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required
• Valid state teaching certification, or a clear ability and commitment to obtain certification
• Strong content-area knowledge and instructional skill
• Positive, solution-oriented mindset with a work ethic and collaborative spirit
• Minimum of two years of successful experience working with diverse student populations

Responsibilities

• Teach Math Analysis (Algebra I) and Statistics
• Foster a classroom environment grounded in critical thinking, academic rigor, mutual respect, and high expectations for all students.
• Implement high-quality, content-specific curriculum and design instructional materials that promote deep thinking and problem-solving.
• Maintain consistent, proactive communication with families regarding student progress and relevant school updates.
• Engage fully in professional development and collaborate closely with colleagues to best support student learning and growth.
• Co-lead a class focusing on SEL and community building twice a week (for teachers at Freire Charter High School).
