About The Position

Prep Academy Tutors of Central Connecticut is seeking an educator to provide in-home and in-person tutoring to students in grades 9–12 in Newtown, Connecticut. The tutor will provide personalized instruction in high school Math and Science based on the Connecticut curriculum, tailoring lessons to individual learning needs and helping students understand material rather than simply memorize it. The role includes remedial support and enrichment, as well as helping students develop problem-solving, critical-thinking, and study skills, build confidence, and enjoy learning. Tutors also collaborate with parents to share information about student progress, challenges, and successes. Tutors have autonomy to manage their schedules and student loads.

Requirements

Hold current, valid registration with the Connecticut State Department of Education, be a qualified teacher in the United States or in the process of becoming one, be a current teacher candidate pursuing a Bachelor of Education, or have experience as a lecturer or course instructor at an accredited U.S. or Canadian university.
Have strong subject-matter expertise in high school Math and/or Science.
Have a genuine passion for helping students succeed.

Responsibilities

Provide personalized high school Math and Science instruction based on the Connecticut curriculum.
Tailor instruction to each student’s learning needs.
Develop customized learning plans that promote understanding of course material.
Provide remedial support and enrichment opportunities.
Help students develop problem-solving, critical-thinking, and study skills.
Build students’ confidence and foster a love of learning.
