About The Position

STEM Preparatory Academy is seeking a High School Assistant Principal of Instruction for the 26'-27' SY. This is a full-time, in-person, 12-month position located in Nashville, Tennessee. The starting salary is $75,000, with the final salary based on experience. STEM Prep is a public charter school serving middle and high school students from diverse backgrounds, with a mission to create an inclusive environment where every student is encouraged to learn, lead, and thrive. Requirements

  • Three years of teaching experience
  • A desire to become a school principal within the next 1 to 3 years
  • Two years of school leadership experience or equivalent experience
  • Commitment to the development of adult learners through skill, knowledge, and mindset coaching conversations
  • Ability to hold adults accountable while building and maintaining relationships
  • Eagerness to resolve conflicts, not avoid them.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Anti Racism, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging
  • Feels confident, compelled, and proactive in creating, monitoring, and evaluating action plans
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and a student-first mindset
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field

Responsibilities

  • Shares leadership and manages the Academic Deans
  • Serves as the instructional leader of the building alongside the principal
  • Responsible for all student and teacher outcomes for the caseload (academic outcomes, classroom culture & climate, attendance) alongside the principal
  • Provides equity-driven and inclusive coaching of adult learners in alignment with the institutional mission, vision, and values
  • Responsible for the supervision, safety, and well-being of students and staff
  • Performs evaluations for staff members designated by the principal
  • Supports the staff culture and work environment in which highly effective staff members are actively engaged and feel unwaveringly connected to the organization and its mission.
  • Strives to successfully retain top performers by creating an environment where staff is committed to a long tenure and would recommend working at the school to others.
  • Designs, facilitates, and evaluates the outcomes of staff professional development
  • Develops, maintains, and regularly reviews and revises systems and practices that improve staff ability to increase student achievement.
  • Serves as leader of the instructional leadership team to ensure that all teachers and leaders regularly use assessment data to meet individual student needs and make daily instructional decisions.
  • Develops data-driven instructional plans following ongoing and real-time data analyses to include both quantitative formative and summative assessment data and qualitative student work analyses
  • Submits weekly performance reports and analyses to the Principal and appropriate others
  • Proactively contributes analyses and strategic, continuous improvement plans to the Principal
  • Consistently evaluates and proactively improves people, processes, programs, and services for greater effectiveness, efficiency, and value.
  • Creates, maintains, and regularly revises systems and processes to drive student achievement.
  • Meets or exceeds agreed-upon goals set for increasing student performance in formative assessments (MAP, benchmark testing, etc.) as well as achievement data (TNReady, ACCESS testing).
  • Ensures the school’s diverse student populations are making progress equal to those students in its regular education program.
  • Roots all decisions - academic, cultural, etc. - in data.
  • Facilitates and supports family and parent communications to include quarterly academic parent academy workshops
  • Serves as the Principal’s proxy or liaison as directed
  • Builds and maintains family satisfaction, providing an indication of a high level of parent satisfaction with the organization as evidenced by feedback and low student attrition rates.
  • Listens and responds respectfully to the range of concerns expressed by various constituents.
  • Upholds the open door policy, ensuring that all families and stakeholders, regardless of home language or country of origin, feel welcome and comfortable at our school.
  • Partners with the High School leadership teams, Network team, and support staff.
  • Ensures an effective flow of critical information between and among leaders, staff, teachers, and students.
  • Works closely with leaders to keep all parties fully informed on all important aspects of the status and development of the academic program to ensure transparent and effective oversight of the organization as a whole.
  • Collaborates with members of senior staff to bolster quality of programming and ensure continuous improvement of the academic program and organization as a whole.
  • Creates and maintains a culture that promotes student achievement and college preparation for all students.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to competent communication and conflict resolution.
  • Ensures the school meets and is in compliance with all federal, state, and local rules and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
