About The Position

The Assistant Principal (AP) of Academics and Instruction drives student achievement for KIPP Capital Region High School. In partnership with the HS Leadership team, this role will own the curriculum implementation management for HS courses and manage an instructional leadership team of Assistant Principals with content expertise to develop teachers. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a High school educator, preferably in a charter or public school environment.
  • 3+ years of Leadership experience, preferably with demonstrated excellence in instructional leadership, including instructional coaching, leading professional development, and responsibility for student achievement.
  • 1+ years experience in managing other instructional leaders preferred.
  • Aptitude to create and work within an inclusive environment that honors and supports a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives.
  • The employee needs to read, write, and speak English fluently.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Secondary Education is strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience working in schools and urban communities is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Owns HS program design, to include setting and monitoring progress towards program goals, creation of key program deliverables (curriculum implementation and coaching tools, formal professional development calendar, etc.).
  • Strategically manages and invests key program stakeholders (staff, students, and families).
  • In collaboration with T&L, drives significant and equitable student growth and outcomes.
  • Ensures that curriculum is aligned to NYS standards and graduation requirements
  • Engages and invests stakeholders (teachers, school leaders, students, families) in our vision of high-quality instruction.
  • Coaches school-based instructional leaders in curriculum implementation and data-driven instruction.
  • Oversees the administration of assessments that yield meaningful data.
  • Creates data-driven action plans that promote student achievement.
  • Observes instructional practices in school to identify and address curriculum design and professional development opportunities.
  • Designing and leading professional development, both pedagogy and curriculum/assessment specific.
  • Designing structures and systems for leaders and coaches to further enhance content knowledge and curriculum implementation.
  • Leading regular school walk-throughs and classroom observations with school and regional leadership teams.
  • Manage instructional coaches to devise meaningful teacher action steps that improve student outcomes.
  • Ensure effective performance management is in place for all teachers through training, modeling, coaching and use accountability measures in their work with instructional coaches.
  • Perform other duties as outlined by the High School Principal.
