About The Position

KIPP Capital Region is seeking an Assistant Principal (AP) of Academics and Instruction for their High School (grades 9-12). This role is crucial in driving student achievement by owning the curriculum implementation management for high school courses and leading an instructional leadership team. KIPP Capital Region is part of a national network of high-performing public charter schools dedicated to preparing students for college, career, and beyond. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a High school educator, preferably in a charter or public school environment.
  • 3+ years of Leadership experience, preferably with demonstrated excellence in instructional leadership, including instructional coaching, leading professional development, and responsibility for student achievement.
  • Aptitude to create and work within an inclusive environment that honors and supports a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Secondary Education is strongly preferred.
  • 1+ years experience in managing other instructional leaders preferred.
  • Prior experience working in schools and urban communities is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Owns HS program design, including setting and monitoring progress towards program goals and creating key program deliverables (curriculum implementation and coaching tools, professional development calendar).
  • Strategically manages and invests key program stakeholders (staff, students, and families).
  • Drives significant and equitable student growth and outcomes in collaboration with T&L.
  • Ensures curriculum alignment with NYS standards and graduation requirements.
  • Coaches school-based instructional leaders in curriculum implementation and data-driven instruction.
  • Oversees the administration of assessments that yield meaningful data.
  • Creates data-driven action plans to promote student achievement.
  • Observes instructional practices to identify and address curriculum design and professional development opportunities.
  • Designs and leads professional development, both pedagogy and curriculum/assessment specific.
  • Designs structures and systems for leaders and coaches to enhance content knowledge and curriculum implementation.
  • Leads regular school walk-throughs and classroom observations with school and regional leadership teams.
  • Manages instructional coaches to devise meaningful teacher action steps that improve student outcomes.
  • Ensures effective performance management for all teachers through training, modeling, coaching, and accountability measures.
  • Performs other duties as outlined by the High School Principal.
  • Complies with all charter, federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Adheres to organization policies and procedures; promotes and supports mission, vision, and values.
