About The Position

KIPP Capital Region is seeking a Director of High School STEM for the 26-27 school year. This role is crucial for driving student achievement in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics for grades 9-12. The Director will collaborate with the Teaching and Learning team to implement curriculum through observation, feedback, data analysis, and coaching. They will also facilitate targeted adult learning experiences to empower teachers and leaders to provide excellent STEM instruction across KIPP Capital Region's high schools, located in Albany and Troy, NY. Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a classroom teacher, preferably in a charter or public school environment in NYS, with at least 3 of those years being in grades 9-12.
  • 3+ years of instructional leadership experience, preferably in Mathematics and/or Science that required management of team and/or individuals, instructional coaching, facilitation of professional development, and the responsibility for student outcomes.
  • This position requires frequent travel between our schools throughout the Capital District area.
  • Aptitude to create and work within an inclusive environment that honors and supports a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives.

Nice To Haves

  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university in Education or a STEM field is strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience working in schools and urban communities is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and implementing engaging STEM curriculum aligned with KIPP's core values and standards, incorporating inquiry-based learning, project-based activities, and real world applications.
  • Support regional STEM initiatives based on student and teacher data to deliver consistent excellent High School instruction across KIPP Capital Region.
  • Draw on content knowledge and understanding of effective instructional practices to review curriculum documents and make recommendations.
  • Continually evaluate curriculum implementation by establishing enabling systems that monitor progress and demonstrate quantitative and qualitative academic growth.
  • Attend and participate in weekly TLS Meetings to provide reflections on curriculum implementation based on data.
  • Monitoring student progress in STEM subjects through regular assessments, analyzing data to identify areas for improvement, and adjusting instruction accordingly.
  • Oversee the administration of regional assessments for High School students that yield meaningful data on student skill development and content progression.
  • Analyze regional data in collaboration with regional and school-based leaders to create action plans promoting student achievement.
  • Collaborate with other KIPP regions, like KIPP NYC, to manage a system for sharing assessment data results and analyses to the greater KIPP Capital Region teacher and leader community.
  • Observe instruction at our High School to identify best practices, spot and address curriculum design or implementation gaps, and determine professional development goals for STEM teachers and leaders for specific sub groups (grade-level, course-specific, etc…).
  • Partnering with school leadership to integrate STEM initiatives, ensuring alignment with overall school goals and strategic planning.
  • Using a data-driven pedagogy, collaborate with school-based leaders and teachers to devise meaningful action steps that improve student outcomes.
  • Support school-based leaders in continually evaluating the effectiveness of STEM programming overall.
  • Building relationships with local STEM organizations and businesses to provide students enrichment opportunities and potential career pathways.
  • Provide targeted coaching and professional development experiences to the High School principal, coaches, and select teachers to further content knowledge development and support curriculum implementation and innovation.
  • Develop and facilitate regional professional development for teachers and leaders to ensure full implementation of curriculum and instructional initiatives across content areas and grade levels (with focus on High School STEM).
  • Providing ongoing professional development for STEM teachers, focusing on effective instructional strategies, differentiated instruction, and utilizing technology in the classroom.
  • Perform other duties outlined by the Senior Director of 9-12 Academics and Chief Academic Officer.
