Requirements

  • Current, unrestricted HHA or CNA license in the state of Indiana.
  • Valid CPR certification and negative TB skin test (or chest x-ray).
  • Minimum of one (1) year of documented experience in a home health agency or facility; direct experience in Dementia/Alzheimer’s care is required.
  • Exceptional assessment skills and the ability to think critically in a home-care setting.
  • Licensed driver with valid automobile insurance and reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, squat, bend, kneel, reach, twist, push, and pull to provide varied assistance based on client mobility.
  • Must be able to safely lift and transfer up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize redirection, validation therapy, and engagement techniques tailored to the cognitive needs of clients with Alzheimer’s/Dementia.
  • Maintain a secure environment, managing behavioral changes or agitation with a calm, professional, and empathetic demeanor.
  • Lead clients in cognitive stimulation activities, such as puzzles, music, or reminiscing, to promote mental well-being and joy.
  • Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)—including bathing, dressing, and grooming—navigating potential care refusal with patience.
  • Provide vigilant supervision to prevent wandering and ensure the home remains a safe, hazard-free environment.
  • Monitor and track changes in the client’s condition and proactively update the Director of Nursing and family members.
  • Prepare nutritious meals and provide consistent hydration reminders, adhering to specific dietary requirements.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed records of care, vitals, and any subtle shifts in cognitive status.
