About The Position

UNC Health is seeking a Hematology/Oncology physician to join the Commission on Cancer-accredited oncology program at UNC Health Johnston in Smithfield, North Carolina. The physician will provide high-quality, patient-centered oncology care in a close-knit community setting while remaining connected with UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, an NCI-designated cancer center.

The role offers the opportunity to support the continued development of oncology services in Johnston County and collaborate with the broader UNC Health Cancer Service Line. The growing program serves Smithfield and the expanding communities of Johnston County, using evidence-based treatment approaches and offering access to subspecialty consultation and multidisciplinary tumor boards. Clinicians have meaningful autonomy, strong local leadership, and the opportunity to build longitudinal patient relationships in an integrated academic cancer network. The physician generally works in a medical office setting. The position is employed by NC Health (Rex Healthcare, Inc., d/b/a NC Health), a private, fully owned subsidiary of UNC Health Care System, and is not a state-employed position.

Requirements

• MD, DO, or equivalent; graduation from an accredited school of medicine.
• Eligible for medical licensure in North Carolina; a North Carolina medical license is listed among required licenses.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Hematology and Oncology; the posting also specifies board certification in the area of specialty and meeting Rex Hospital Medical Staff board-certification requirements.
• DEA license.
• BLS certification.
• Proficient English communication skills.
• High-level quantitative and qualitative reasoning skills for diagnosing medical and clinical issues.
• Ability to meet the role’s physical demands, including lifting up to 25 pounds.

Nice To Haves

• Prior experience in oncology is preferred.
• BLS/ACLS certification is preferred.
