About The Position

The Helper teams with a Route Driver to assist with collecting waste and/or recyclable material. The role follows WM safety rules and applicable regulations and supports scheduled route operations. Work is performed on-site, Monday through Friday, with a 6:00 a.m. start and 10–12-hour days. The listed pay range is $18.00; a separate pay-range statement in the posting is blank.

This is a safety-sensitive role. Candidates must strictly comply with safety rules and protocols and may be subject to drug and alcohol testing, including pre-employment, post-incident, reasonable-suspicion, and random testing, in accordance with government regulations and company policies.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
• Must strictly comply with safety rules and protocols; the role may require drug and alcohol testing in accordance with regulations and company policies.

Responsibilities

• Work in accordance with WM Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA requirements, and applicable local, state, and federal laws.
• Immediately report unsafe situations and service-related issues to the Operations Manager or Dispatch.
• Attend and participate in scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required by WM or the Operations Manager.
• Manually or mechanically load and empty residential and/or commercial containers into the truck, including containers staged curbside or dockside, requiring carryout, or requiring pullout.
• Operate hoisting devices to lift and empty bins or containers into the truck hopper.
• Assist the driver with all backing maneuvers while on route.
• Notify the Operations Manager of incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
• Notify the Operations Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions, including closed or impassable streets or alleyways, containers too heavy to service, and potential safety hazards.
• Communicate customer requests to the Operations Manager or Dispatch.
• Perform duties as scheduled by the Operations Manager or Dispatch and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.
