About The Position

The Help Me Grow Home Visiting Supervisor oversees the Help Me Grow/Healthy Families America (HMG/HFA) home visiting program, ensuring families and children receive appropriate services. This role involves supervising Home Visitors, maintaining a smaller caseload, and performing essential home visiting duties. Home Visitors work with parents of children aged 0-3, providing support, education on child development and parenting, and utilizing evidence-based models in home settings. The supervisor ensures adherence to program standards, approves billing, conducts weekly 1:1 supervision with staff, and collaborates with the Project Coordinator. They also stay informed about program changes through state calls and webinars and assist with HFA affiliation paperwork.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Early Childhood, Child Development or related field as specified by the ODH Help Me Grow/Healthy Families America requirements.
  • Ability to obtain necessary program credentials within 90 days.
  • Two (2) years of experience working in a home visiting capacity with infants/toddlers and their families.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Basic computer knowledge with competency in application of Microsoft Word, Excel, Google products, and other job related computer software.
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility and learn administrative, clerical and other responsibilities specific to the job assignment.
  • Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and access to reliable transportation.
  • Non-tobacco user.
  • Ability to document identity and employment eligibility within 3 days of original appointment as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform & Control Act requirements.
  • Master degree in human services or fields related to work with children and families, or bachelor's degree in these fields with 3 years of relevant experience, or less than a bachelor's degree with commensurate HFA experience.
  • A solid understanding of or experience in supervising diverse staff with humility, as well as providing support to staff in stressful work environments.
  • Knowledge of infant and child development and parent-child attachment.
  • Experience with family services that embraces the concepts of family-centered and strength-based service provision.
  • Knowledge of parent-infant health and dynamics of child abuse and neglect.
  • Experience supporting culturally diverse communities/families.
  • Experience in home visiting with a strong background in early childhood prevention services.
  • Willingness to engage in building reflective practice (e.g., capacity for introspection, communicating awareness of self in relation to others, recognizing value of supervision, etc.).
  • Experience with reflective practice.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules and conducts required home visits for HMG families in accordance with Ohio Department of Health (ODH) and Healthy Families America (HFA) standards.
  • Delivers evidence-based home visiting services according to ODH and HFA policies and procedures.
  • Establishes individual eligibility for HMF Home Visiting services by conducting the initial assessment tool identified by ODH and HFA.
  • Assists families in establishing goals and a plan for accomplishing their goals, as well as the assessment of the normal growth and development of the eligible child/children.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to individuals who may not share basic commonality, including value system and behavior norms.
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills and positive team member skills.
  • Initiates and maintains regular contact and support with families, primarily within the family's home.
  • Participates and collaborates in child find activities with local agencies and attends collaborative meetings as assigned.
  • Conducts family interviews and home visits and secures reports and other pertinent information from agencies and professionals involved in delivering services.
  • Encourages and fosters family independence in decision making regarding needed services and supports.
  • Provides family-centered and strength-based services to families directed at establishing a trusting relationship.
  • Assists families with strengthening the parent-child relationship, with improving their skills to optimize the home environment, improving their family support system, and increasing their ability to problem solve and assume the role of advocate for themselves and their children.
  • Identifies and refers families for contacts/appointments at other supportive agencies, including healthcare appointments.
  • Develops and maintains individual case files for all referrals and eligible individuals in a confidential and up to date manner and system following department standards.
  • Works closely with any internal programs/partners our clients are working with to help ensure clients have comprehensive and coordinated care.
  • Enters data into electronic and hard copy records, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Completes client reporting within required timeframes.
  • Participates on committees, meetings, trainings, and events as requested.
  • Maintains confidentiality of confidential or sensitive records and information pertinent to the assigned position.
  • Oversees regular and routine supervision of staff of the Help Me Grow/Healthy Families America (HMG/HFA) home visiting program.
  • Ensures families and children are receiving the desired and/or entitled services in accordance with the rules and policies of the HMG/HFA program.
  • Approves billing to be submitted for reimbursement at least bi-weekly.
  • Meets with assigned staff at least weekly to provide 1:1 direct reflective supervision.
  • Meets with the Project Coordinator at least weekly to not only receive supervision as a home visitor, but also to address any issues that may come up during 1:1 supervision with their assigned home visitors.
  • Attends and/or participates in State HFA/HMG update calls and/or webinars to stay informed of any changes to the program.
  • Helps to maintain HFA affiliation paperwork and requirements.
