About The Position

At NIX Construction in Ogden, Utah, our Heavy Equipment Operators are hands-on, in-the-action crew members who don't just run equipment... they help build entire projects from the ground up. You'll work closely with your Foreman and crew to safely and efficiently move dirt, install utilities, and keep projects moving forward. This is also a role with room to grow. We're looking for someone who wants to develop beyond operating equipment by learning how projects come together, taking greater ownership on the jobsite, and building the leadership skills needed to guide a crew. For the right person who demonstrates strong performance, safety, accountability, and leadership, this position may provide a path toward becoming a Field Foreman as opportunities become available.

Requirements

  • Experience operating heavy construction equipment
  • Ability to safely operate excavators and/or loaders on active job sites
  • Basic understanding of equipment maintenance and daily inspections
  • Ability to perform physical labor when needed
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Strong commitment to safety and teamwork
  • Ability to follow directions and work under a Field Foreman
  • Lift 50–100 lbs occasionally
  • Stand, walk, kneel, crouch, and climb throughout the day
  • Work in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, rain, snow)
  • Operate around heavy equipment and active construction zones
  • Perform repetitive physical tasks in rugged environments

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate heavy equipment on active construction sites
  • Run equipment such as: Excavators, Rubber-tired loaders, Backhoes, Auger bore machines, Micro-tunneling and caisson equipment (when trained)
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and preventative maintenance
  • Grease, fuel, clean, and maintain assigned equipment daily
  • Assist with minor repairs and report major issues
  • Work alongside your crew doing general labor tasks when needed
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized jobsite
  • Use proper rigging, tag lines, and spotters for safe operations
  • Follow all safety procedures and actively participate in jobsite safety meetings
