About The Position

The City of Pharr is hiring a full-time, onsite Heavy Equipment Operator in Pharr, Texas, at an annual salary of $30,400. The role supports the maintenance and improvement of city infrastructure and essential services. The operator primarily transports equipment using a utility trailer and may operate smaller equipment, including shredders and slope mowers. The position also involves operating a range of machinery, including dozers, front-end loaders, motor graders, maintainers, bucket trucks, backhoes, low-boys, flatbeds, pavers, rollers, forklifts, vector trucks, and vacuum and mechanical street sweepers. Other related duties may be assigned. Candidates must pass a thorough criminal background check due to the sensitivity of information handled by the position.

Requirements

• Understand occupational hazards and safety precautions related to operating equipment.
• Know the laws and ordinances regulating vehicle operation.
• Have knowledge and skill in operating medium construction equipment.
• Know traffic and highway safety rules and regulations and precautionary measures for avoiding accidents.
• Understand hazards involved in using medium equipment and the safety precautions required.
• Be able to determine how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment affect outcomes.
• Be able to make minor repairs and adjustments and service automotive equipment.
• Have sufficient physical strength to perform heavy labor work.
• Pass a thorough criminal background check.

Responsibilities

• Operate a utility trailer transport.
• Occasionally operate smaller equipment, including shredders and slope mowers.
• Operate equipment such as dozers, front-end loaders, motor graders, maintainers, bucket trucks, backhoes, low-boys, flatbeds, pavers, rollers, forklifts, vector trucks, and vacuum and mechanical street sweepers.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Make minor equipment repairs and adjustments and service automotive equipment.
