About The Position
The Town of Hopkinton is seeking a dependable, motivated Heavy Equipment Operator (HEO) to join our Department of Public Works Highway Division. This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys working outdoors, operating equipment, and taking pride in maintaining the roads, grounds, cemeteries, and public spaces that serve our community. The HEO operates a variety of heavy equipment, including backhoes, front-end loaders, street sweepers, sanders, plows, trucks, and other equipment used in public works operations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three to five years of experience operating equipment and trucks in construction and maintenance work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience safely operating heavy equipment and power-driven tools.
- Valid U.S. Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B.
- Hoisting Engineer License, Class 2B or greater.
- Comfortable performing physically demanding work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Nice To Haves
- Cemetery, funeral, burial, gravesite experience is a plus.

Responsibilities
- Operates a variety of heavy equipment, including backhoes, front-end loaders, street sweepers, sanders, plows, trucks, and other equipment used in public works operations.
- Participates in snow and ice operations and emergency response as needed.
- Maintains roads, grounds, cemeteries, and public spaces.
