About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating heavy equipment at a recycling center, landfill, or transfer station to transfer, spread, cover, load, or compact waste or soil. The operator performs equipment inspections and minor servicing, monitors waste for unacceptable materials, and reports equipment issues and required repairs. The role follows company safety policies and procedures and includes cleaning and storing equipment at the end of each shift.

Requirements

• Two years of prior related experience in heavy equipment operation.
• One year of prior experience working at sites regulated by OSHA.
• Good customer service skills and a professional, courteous, cooperative, honest, and trustworthy approach toward customers and co-workers.
• Good time-management skills to complete assigned responsibilities efficiently and safely.
• Ability to follow through, adhere to a work schedule, and address challenges as they arise.
• Ability to adhere to company policies and rules, promote safety standards, and avoid inappropriate risks.
• Pride in work and a commitment to achieving goals.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre- and post-operation inspections in accordance with company policy, ensuring windows, lights, mirrors, and rear-view cameras are clean.
• Safely and efficiently operate equipment such as forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, and front-end loaders, following proper safety standards.
• Continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable materials.
• Monitor equipment condition to ensure operational readiness and minimize downtime; clean tracks or wheels as needed.
• Perform and document minor equipment service, referring more complicated mechanical issues to the Maintenance Shop.
• Complete Equipment Condition Reports and other required reports, and report necessary repairs to a supervisor.
• Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
• Ensure the shop is clean and equipment is serviced and stored at the completion of each shift.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
