Operates a crawler or rubber-tired machine mounted with an excavator bucket. Used for excavating ditches, structures, and mass excavations, laying pipe and precast concrete structures, loading trucks and placing rock riprap. May also be equipped with various hydraulic attachments. Operates heavy equipment of various sizes and weights used in road, site or highway construction and paving. Operates heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life. Maneuvers heavy equipment into loading or unloading position, following signals from loading crew as needed; checks that the vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned. Ensures a sound understanding of the issues involving ground disturbance. Uses equipment as appropriate to level roads and/or working area, ensure proper drainage, and develop proper grade. Ensures a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task. Properly follows all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment. Signals operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and materials with shovel. May be called upon to run small power tools such as jack hammer. Digs, spreads, and levels construction materials. Lifts, carries and holds material, tools and supplies. Maintains regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required. Must keep abreast of all applicable laws and regulations at all times.
