Heavy Equipment Operator
About The Position
The Heavy Equipment Operator safely operates heavy equipment at a recycling facility, landfill, or transfer station to transfer, spread, cover, load, and/or compact waste or soil efficiently and safely. Equipment may include forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, and front-end loaders. The role includes inspecting and maintaining equipment, monitoring waste for unacceptable materials, documenting equipment condition and minor service, and following company safety policies and procedures. The operator also maintains a clean and orderly work area and communicates professionally with customers, clients, vendors, coworkers, and management.
Requirements
- Two years of prior related experience in heavy equipment operation.
- Good time-management skills to complete assigned responsibilities efficiently and safely.
- Ability to follow through, adhere to a work schedule, and address challenges as they arise.
- Ability to adhere to company policies and rules, promote company safety standards, and avoid inappropriate risks.
- Pride in work and commitment to achieving goals.
Responsibilities
- Perform pre- and post-operation equipment inspections in accordance with company policy, ensuring windows, lights, mirrors, and rear-view cameras are clean.
- Safely and efficiently operate equipment such as forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, and front-end loaders, using proper safety standards.
- Continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable materials.
- Monitor equipment condition to ensure it remains operationally ready and minimize downtime; clean tracks or wheels as needed.
- Perform and document minor equipment service, referring more complicated mechanical issues to the Maintenance Shop.
- Complete Equipment Condition Reports and other required reports, and report necessary repairs to a supervisor.
- Follow required safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure the shop is clean, serviced, and stored at the completion of each shift.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
