About The Position

Seasonal position at Schweitzer Mountain Resort. The Heavy Equipment Operator will be responsible for plowing, grading, and maintaining resort roads and parking lots. This role involves day, swing, and graveyard shifts, with working hours dictated by weather events. While defined as full-time, steady 40-hour work weeks are not guaranteed, and work may occur in spurts with days off in between. The operator must be prepared to work any and all days and nights as weather dictates, including weekends and holidays.

Requirements

Minimum age: 21
English reading, writing, and communication skills.
Ability to work in all weather conditions.
Ability to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces.
Possibility of lifting 50 lbs or more.
If holding a CDL, must be able to pass the DOT medical physical and drug screen.

Nice To Haves

CDL preferred
High school diploma preferred
1 year of heavy machinery experience preferred
Willingness to obtain extensive knowledge of Schweitzer Mountain Resort facilities and activities.

Responsibilities

Operate graders, backhoes, front-end loaders, and snow blowers.
Operate sand trucks if qualified (requires commercial driver license (CDL) and clean driving record).
Perform minor maintenance of vehicles, including monthly services, tire chain repair, cutting edge replacement, and cleaning of equipment.
Maintain selected roads in the Schweitzer Mountain Community, Schweitzer’s parking lots, and private driveways/parking lots per yearly contracts.
Use a two-way radio and log activity reports.
Occasionally back up the Independent Highway District or its contractors on the main Schweitzer Mountain Road.
Operate equipment with both vehicle and pedestrian traffic present, adhering to all safety requirements (e.g., high-vis vests, functioning beacons, traffic cones).
