About The Position

Baldwin Paving Company, Inc. is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator – Loader for its Douglasville, Georgia asphalt plant. This full-time role primarily operates a front-end loader to move and load materials for asphalt production and aggregate operations in accordance with cost, quality, and quantity specifications. The position reports to the Plant Manager. Although the role has a designated home plant, employees may be assigned to other company asphalt plants in the Greater Atlanta area as operational needs require. Candidates need prior heavy-equipment operating experience in settings such as construction sites, quarries, asphalt plants, or aggregate yards; warehouse forklift experience alone does not qualify. Work schedules require flexibility and may include day or night shifts, long hours, and weekend work, including Saturdays and Sundays, based on business needs. Typical hours are Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with some weekend hours potentially available. Employees must have reliable transportation and be able to travel to assigned work locations. The position involves working outdoors near moving machinery and equipment, often in loud conditions and around dust, fumes, fuel, and exhaust. Employees may encounter extreme heat and cold and rain. The role may require lifting or moving up to 50 pounds, operating equipment controls, performing minor maintenance, handling and moving objects, and standing, bending, kneeling, or sitting for extended periods. Personal protective equipment is required in designated areas and may include gloves, a hard hat, hearing and respiratory protection, safety glasses, and hard-toe safety shoes. The company offers an hourly rate of $18–$22 depending on experience, with a bonus opportunity, and benefits after an applicable waiting period. A high school diploma or equivalent is desired but not required.

Requirements

Prior experience operating heavy equipment in a construction site, quarry, asphalt plant, aggregate yard, or similar environment; warehouse forklift experience alone does not meet the minimum qualification.
Ability to operate a front-end loader safely and efficiently.
Ability to work safely around haul trucks, stockpiles, moving equipment, and uneven terrain.
Ability to conduct pre-operation inspections, identify hazards or equipment malfunctions, and perform basic loader maintenance.
Ability to follow directions and communicate effectively with plant personnel.
Professional and courteous attitude toward co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
Willingness to work nights and weekends when needed and to work in a team environment.
Reliable transportation and ability to travel to assigned work locations.
Adherence to company safety requirements and procedures.
Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including occasionally lifting or moving up to 50 pounds and remaining in standing, bending, kneeling, or sitting positions for extended periods.

Responsibilities

Safely and efficiently operate a front-end loader to move aggregate, sand, recycled asphalt, and other materials within the plant yard or job site.

Follow directions and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
Report to assigned job sites in proper attire and ready to begin work at the designated start time.
