About The Position

An Overview A Heavy Equipment Operator operates one or more types of automotive equipment and performs a variety of manual tasks in connection with such operations. Employees in this class are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of several types of automotive equipment. Incumbents may service and make minor mechanical repairs. Assignments are outlined in detail by a supervisor, standard procedures are followed, and work is inspected periodically for safety and economy of operation. May be required to work hours other than the standard day shift should an emergency arise, work rotating standby/on-call shifts. This position is an essential personnel position, the incumbent must be available during emergency events including but not limited to winter storms, coastal storms, and special events. This is an essential personnel role . The Opportunity Perform Sanitary and Storm Sewer maintenance Primary function is to operate a Vacuum Truck and Sewer Jetter Truck. Construct, repair, and replace sewer lines, manholes, catch basins, and other sewer infrastructure. Perform regular inspections on pipes, manholes, catch basins, culverts, siphons, and other sewer infrastructure. Respond to reports of backups and flooding; investigate for cause, clear blockages, and generate record documents. Clear trees and other obstructions from sanitary sewer easements. Clear roots, leaves, ice, and other debris from sewer pipes, manholes, and catch basins. Put up proper barricades and warning signs in accordance with proper safety requirements. Perform preventative maintenance and/or minor repair to City equipment; e.g. grease, oil, etc. Work in a team environment and assist co–workers or supervisors with other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned. Assists crew with manual labor efforts of raking and shoveling asphalt, rolling asphalt, pouring concrete, and mixing cement; Performs all other work as required or assigned. Conduct technical inspection and analysis of sewer system Assist with Operating CCTV inspection equipment to rate, evaluate, and record defects found within the sewer systems per the NASSCO PACP and MACP standards Work with teammates and supervisors to recommend preventative and corrective maintenance based on observations Identify sources of inflow and infiltration to the sanitary sewer with smoke and dye testing as well as visual inspection Maintain detailed and accurate records of all maintenance, repair, and inspection activities in Cityworks. Perform snow and ice control Operates single and tandem-axle trucks, equipped with an auger, aerial lift equipment, or equipped with plows, spreader, and chemical systems to remove snow and ice from roadway surface. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Three years experience in the operation of heavy equipment
  • One year of supervisory experience
  • Thorough knowledge of the proper methods of transporting heavy loads and load limits, traffic safety rules and accident prevention practices
  • Skills in the operation of heavy multi-purpose motor equipment under all types of weather conditions
  • Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the proper endorsements in the state of residency

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of experience with the inspection and evaluation of sanitary and/or storm sewer systems.
  • NASSCO PACP and MACP certification.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor in all types of weather.
  • Knowledge of roadway construction or maintenance activities, and experience utilizing equipment to perform these activities.
