About The Position

Mayo Clinic is seeking a Healthcare Engineering Technician I, also known as a Lab Equipment Field Service Engineer, to support the formation, launch, and stabilization of a new laboratory. This is a limited-tenure role with the expectation of transitioning to a permanent infrastructure position within a separate, independently operating company. The technician will be responsible for maintaining medical and clinical equipment and systems, implementing the Mayo Clinic Medical Equipment Management Plan, and performing installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of biomedical, laboratory, research, and imaging equipment. The role requires strong technical and mechanical skills, a customer-focused approach, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize service calls effectively while adhering to Mayo policy and procedure. Technicians will work on lower complexity, high volume equipment such as infusion pumps, SCDs, centrifuges, microscopes, or entry-level imaging and x-ray. The position involves responding to service calls communicated through HTM Leadership, HTM Support Specialists, or CMMS dashboard, with potential for rapid response to emergent calls. On-call duties, overtime, and travel for vendor-specific training (domestically and internationally, including up to 3 weeks in Europe within the first year) may be required. A commitment to continuous learning and mastery of complex equipment is essential to support Mayo's mission.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Biomedical Electronics/Healthcare Technology Management, Electronics, Mechatronics, Engineering (mechanical/computer/electronics), or technical discipline; OR U.S. Military training in biomedical electronics, mechatronics, or engineering (mechanical/computer/electronics); OR H.S. Diploma or another technical certificate with 3 years of related experience (maintaining medical equipment or medical systems).
  • For laboratory or research positions: Associate degree or higher in medical/clinical laboratory science, medical technology, or other related science fields and experience maintaining lab or medical equipment/systems.
  • Ability to travel for vendor specific training both domestically and internationally, including up to 3 weeks in Europe within the first year of employment.
  • Authorization to work and remain in the United States, without necessity for Mayo Clinic sponsorships now, or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Field service experience with laboratory equipment is preferred but not required.
  • AAMI ACI Certification: AAMI-CBAT, CBET, CRES, CHTM, CISS, CCEACCE-HTCC, CCE
  • Vendor training on relevant equipment
  • Knowledge of safe work practices around biological, chemical, radiation and energy hazards
  • Familiarity with test and QA tools/software needed to perform medical equipment maintenance
  • Knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, biology, and medical terminology

  • Prioritize service calls appropriately and adhere to Mayo policy and procedure.
  • Respond rapidly to emergent calls directly from the customer.
  • Be available for on-call duties and overtime as required.
  • Travel to other Mayo Clinic sites and applicable vendor training.
  • Commit to continuously improving knowledge to develop a mastery of increasingly complex equipment and supporting Mayo’s mission.
