Health Unit Coordinator - Cardiology
About The Position
The Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) helps provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere for patients, families, and visitors while managing and facilitating the day-to-day operations of a unit. The role provides general support to patients, family members, and staff, and helps ensure the unit runs smoothly and efficiently. The coordinator works with the clinical team to coordinate patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, and maintains accurate electronic health records. The position is based at University Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. It is part-time at 0.90 FTE, or 36 hours per week, with 12-hour shifts Monday through Friday and a two-in-six weekend rotation. Weekend shifts are Saturday and Sunday, 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Hours may vary based on departmental operational needs.
Requirements
- One year of experience in a medical environment is required.
- No minimum education is required.
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of experience in a medical or customer service environment, or experience of a similar nature.
Responsibilities
- Manage and facilitate the day-to-day operations of a unit.
- Answer phones, organize files, order supplies, handle correspondence, manage databases, and provide general support to patients, family members, and staff.
- Collaborate with the clinical team to coordinate patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Maintain accurate electronic health records and perform other clerical duties.
- Use communication and organizational skills to support patient care.
