About The Position

Fairview is looking for a Health Unit Coordinator in the Emergency Department at Lakes Medical Center in Wyoming, MN. This role is a .75 FTE (60 hours every 2 weeks) working 12-hour evening & night shifts, with every third weekend rotation. Variable weekday schedule. The Emergency Department at M Health Fairview Lakes Medical Center is a fast-paced, collaborative environment dedicated to providing exceptional emergency care to our community. As a 25-bed Emergency Department and Level IV Trauma Center, we care for more than 32,000 patients annually, averaging 85 patient visits per day, with volumes continuing to grow. Our multidisciplinary team includes Board Certified Emergency Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, Registered Nurses, ER Technicians, and Health Unit Coordinators working together to provide high-quality, compassionate care. The department serves patients across the lifespan, including newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.

Requirements

  • 1 year HUC experience or equivalent experience if HUC training program has not been completed

Nice To Haves

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Successful completion of HUC training program or equivalent experience
  • 1 year Health Unit Coordinator experience in acute care setting

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of clerical functions to support the health care team staff.
  • Acts as the receptionist for the unit, greeting patients and visitors and providing them with information and directions.
  • Manages patient charts and medical record flow.
  • Ensures outstanding patient & guest experience is achieved.
  • Coordinates activities of unit to support patient care staff.
  • Manages medical record and data flow within the unit to support safe patient care processes.
  • Fulfills physician orders.
  • Communicates effectively with patient/family, the interdependent team and other disciplines regarding the care of the patient.
  • Achieves customer service excellence by understanding and supporting the needs of all internal and external customers (patients, families, frontline staff and physicians/LIP's).
  • Coordinates information to facilitate care progression of patients, making sure all discharge information is assembled for discharge to home or transfers to skill nursing facilities, TCUs, etc.
  • Works with clinics, hospitals, and other agencies to obtain patient records as needed for ongoing care within Fairview facilities.
  • Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards.
  • Performs other responsibilities as needed/assigned.
