About The Position

Aspirus St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota, is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator to join its Maternal Child Health team. Under the direction of an RN, the coordinator supports the team delivery of patient care by using current technology to transcribe orders, maintain the integrity of patient medical records, and gather, enter, and credit patient charges. The coordinator also keeps the unit adequately stocked. The role is part-time at 0.60 FTE, with a flexible FTE range of 0.60–0.70 (48–56 hours biweekly). The schedule is an eight-hour day/evening rotation, with work every other weekend. Mostly sedentary work is required, with occasional prolonged standing and walking; the position also involves sitting, computer use, communication, and lifting up to 25 pounds.

Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent.
Obtain and maintain registration as a Notary Public within 60 days of hire.
Legible handwriting and knowledge of medical terminology.
Demonstrated organizational skills and proper telephone etiquette.
Ability to communicate tactfully with people.
Ability to perform basic computer keyboarding and use Microsoft Office applications.
Intermediate reading, writing, speaking, mathematical, and reasoning abilities.
Ability to be mobile; hear, reach, see, and sit for eight hours; and lift up to 25 pounds.

Nice To Haves

Completion of a Health Unit Coordinator course.
Previous Health Unit Coordinator, patient care, or general office experience.
