About The Position

The Health Unit Coordinator I provides operational support to the unit within the defined scope of practice to help maintain quality-of-care standards. The role also serves as a first-line customer service advocate, promoting an excellent experience for patients, visitors, physicians, students, and staff. The position is at Franciscan Health Lafayette East Campus in Lafayette, Indiana, and is listed as 0.5 FTE evening.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association required within 90 days.

Nice To Haves

One year of healthcare or related experience preferred.
Health Unit Clerk (HUC) preferred.
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.

Responsibilities

Respond to call lights and direct inquiries to the appropriate party; activate alerts; monitor the tube system where applicable and use proper response etiquette.
Greet and assist patients, visitors, physicians, students, and staff, answer questions using appropriate response standards, and coordinate activities among nursing staff, physicians, hospital departments, patients, and visitors.
Facilitate communication of patient information within the unit and with other units and departments, reporting pertinent information accurately and promptly.
Answer multi-line telephones, respond to callers’ questions or direct them to the appropriate party, and follow telephone etiquette and defined service standards.
Assist with bed assignments and maintain accurate patient locations in Epic.
Assist in onboarding and training new employees to ensure consistent and accurate information.
Transcribe physician orders as required, applying basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology, disease processes, medical terminology, and accepted abbreviations, in accordance with policies and procedures.
