The RTC Health Unit Coordinator coordinates tests and treatments across departments for patients on nursing units, maintaining knowledge of diagnostic and treatment services to facilitate scheduling. The coordinator supports patient care communications through multiple-line telephone, unit and site paging, and hospital information systems; screens calls; monitors office equipment; troubleshoots minor problems; and arranges repairs for major malfunctions. The role uses the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and other computer systems to order patient and unit supplies and equipment and to process daily patient charges and related procedures. It also prepares chart forms for admissions, transfers, discharges, and expirations; obtains medical-record copies for transfers to other care facilities; and verifies that records contain accurate demographic, identification, registration, and level-of-care information. The coordinator fosters positive customer relations and a harmonious work environment by promptly and courteously acknowledging requests, responding to call lights, using proper phone etiquette, and supporting communication among the health care team. The position requires providing care-related support appropriate to the ages and developmental needs of patients, consistent with departmental policies and procedures. Team members must maintain annual educational requirements for hospital-based certifications such as DNV or CARF.
