About The Position

The Health & Safety Manager will provide leadership, coordination, and technical expertise in the area of health and safety at the Flint River mill. This role is accountable for establishing reliable and sustainable methods for improving safety performance, fostering a learning culture where safety is a core value, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The manager will develop and implement policies, procedures, programs, and tools to create a safe and injury-free work environment. Responsibilities include coordinating health and safety audit programs, developing and implementing safety training programs, recommending changes to reduce hazards, and providing functional expertise to achieve an accident-free workplace. The role also involves providing guidance to hourly Safety Coordinators, facilitating the sharing of safety best practices, fostering a strong safety culture through behavior and engagement, and overseeing industrial hygiene and ergonomics programs. Additionally, the manager will maintain required safety information, analyze data, develop safety calendars and training schedules, assist the Emergency Response Team, manage Security contracted services, manage Safety Engineers, and provide 24-hour support for emergency response. The role includes managing injuries and worker compensation cases, supporting ADA discussions, managing the Health Services Department, coordinating with Corporate EHS staff, responding to OSHA visits, and ensuring corporate mandates are implemented. Quality expectations include understanding quality policy, supporting customer experience, and aiding in mill-wide quality efforts.

Requirements

  • B.S. in occupational health and safety or technical discipline with significant related experience and exposure to OSHA general industry requirements
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office and ability to navigate/manage Online databases
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment
  • At least two years' experience in a leadership role
  • Demonstrated strong propensity to lead based on successful formal leadership experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a developed competency to influence others
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead cross-functional teams including knowledge of basic facilitation techniques
  • Clear ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects and deadlines with an attention to details
  • Strong written and oral communication skills to effectively convey priorities and concepts to all levels of the organization
  • Ability to manage change and conflict

Nice To Haves

  • CSP and/or CIH certification preferred
  • SharePoint use and management is a plus
  • Expertise in Process Safety Management (PSM) is a plus
  • Experience with Six Sigma and change management processes is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and management support to the Safety Coordinator and area safety team members.
  • Manage Security contracted services as their IP Contract Coordinator (IPCC).
  • Manage Safety Engineers at the mill and report to the EHS Manager.
  • Provide support to mill ensuring 24-hour support for emergency response.
  • Manage injuries and worker compensation cases.
  • Support ADA discussions initiated through the Health Services department.
  • Manage the Health Services Department employees and act as IPCC to contracted Health Services vendor.
  • Coordinate visits with Corporate EHS staff and respond to OSHA visits.
  • Ensure corporate mandates are implemented and executed successfully and report out to corporate team.
