About The Position

Directs the development and implementation of programs intended to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths and financial losses. Duties include identifying and appraising conditions that could produce accidents and financial losses and evaluating the potential extent of injuries resulting from accidents and developing accident-prevention and loss-control systems and programs for incorporation into operational policies of the organization. Compiles analyzes and interprets statistical data related to exposure factors concerning occupational illnesses and accidents and prepares reports.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree and/or 7 years of experience working in safety in a manufacturing environment.
  • 7-10 years as a Health & Safety Environmental Manager
  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA requirements
  • CSP certification or GPS designee is necessary
  • Experience in a 24/7 environment is a preferred
  • Experience with multi-site facilities preferred but not required
  • Experience working with governmental and regulatory agencies
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel
  • Occupation safety skills and training
  • Training, Development and implementation of Health and Safety related programs
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Partners with finance group regarding risk management activities including, but not limited to, periodic walk-thru with external carrier representatives, company representatives, and others as required for safety and facility risk management activities
  • Develop and implement responses for risk management mitigation requirements related to compliance and risk reduction efforts as needed
  • Responsible for safety systems within the facility including: fire alarms, sprinkler systems, evacuation alarms/annunciators and similar types of equipment. Conducts periodic inspections and tests of the equipment as required. Coordinates service and certification needs on this equipment. Partners with facility maintenance as required.
  • Conduct periodic facility inspections and provide written results and recommendations, as necessary, to management
  • Maintain all Health and Safety internal and external documents and records, as required
  • Develop, establish, and maintain appropriate communication methods to ensure all employees are adequately informed of current and/or important Health and Safety issues
  • Assist managers with documenting Health and Safety related standard operating procedures
  • Develop and conduct training programs for both employees and management relating to potential safety and health hazards, applicable regulatory requirements, and general occupational safety of the organization
  • Develop, establish and maintain new employee orientation program and conduct initial training for new & temporary employees, contractors and visitors
  • Develop, establish and maintain specific safety programs including, but not limited to, hazardous communication, lockout/tagout, forklift, PPE, confined space, fall protection, machine guarding, fire and emergency evacuations
  • Oversee the investigation of all workplace incidents (first aid cases, near misses, recordable injuries, and loss time injuries). Work with responsible person(s) to determine root cause and necessary corrective actions
  • Track and follow-up on incident corrective action implementation and effectiveness with the third-party insurance carrier
  • Establish and monitor appropriate metrics and publish periodic results for both management review and employee information.
  • Provide written recommendations to management regarding potential and existing compliance issues, as necessary
  • Stay abreast of current OSHA Laws and Regulations to ensure the company is compliant to all federal, state, and local regulations and requirements
  • Work closely with EMS representative to stay current with all EPA Laws and Regulations to ensure the company is compliant to all federal, state, and local regulations and requirements
  • Support Human Resources on reporting and managing Workers Compensation claims with third-party insurance carrier
  • Purchase safety related items, such as first aid and safety training materials
  • Main liaison with governmental and regulatory agencies, such as fire departments and rescue teams to assure information exchanged and mutual assistance and participates in activities of related professional organizations.
