About The Position

The Office of Sexual Health and Epidemiology (OSHE) focuses on HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) surveillance, including data management and public health informatics, STI programmatic interventions and education, HIV and STI partner services, and HIV/STI/HCV and related program evaluation and research. The OSHE serves as a source of information to guide AIDS Institute program and resource allocation decisions and to provide a robust, factual picture of the impact of the diseases individually and within critical subgroups. The OSHE also provides expertise and analysis to track the impact and outcomes of statewide disease control efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of experience contributing to the coordination of program activities in a public health, health, health regulatory, or human services related program.
  • OR an Associate's degree in a related field and four years of such experience.
  • OR six years of such experience.
  • A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience.
  • Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
  • The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master's degree in public health, public administration, or a related field.
  • At least one year of experience working with state or federal program(s) focused on the prevention and surveillance of STIs and/or HIV or communicable diseases.
  • Experience working with confidential data.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), evidenced by regular and recent use of programs.
  • Some knowledge or experience with analytical software (SAS or R).
  • At least one year of experience developing reports and drafting summary documents.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills, evidenced by coordinating and maintaining frequent interactions with internal or external counterparts, facilitating information exchange, responding to inquiries, or supporting collaboration across teams.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating Interstate Coordination Communication Record (ICCR) processes which involves frequent interactions with counterparts across the US and within New York State.
  • Quality assurance to improve the completeness and accuracy of STI surveillance data.
  • Data reporting and management activities including maintaining operations guidance, supporting technical documentation, and contributing toward the creation of data dictionaries for programmatic purposes.
  • Supporting evaluation projects related to STI prevention/intervention.
  • Supporting program metrics reporting and related projects.
  • Contributing toward preparing system modifications in the Communicable Diseases Electronic Surveillance System (CDESS).
  • Providing training and technical assistance.
  • Supervision.
  • Representing the Office of Sexual Health and Epidemiology (OSHE) as necessary.
