About The Position

The Health and Fitness Manager (HFM) will operate, in conjunction with the Director of Vitality and Well-being (DVW), and support a comprehensive, multi-dimensional and holistic program of offerings for the residents and employees of The Sharon at SouthPark. The overall goal of the position will be to develop, implement, and maintain a robust fitness/aquatics program to foster and support a culture of Vitality and Well-being.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field required. Masters preferred.
  • Certifications from ACSM, ACE, AFAA, NSCA, IDEA, or NASM required.
  • Willingness to work in an environment that changes daily based on the needs of the residents.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher) plus the willingness to learn other computer programs if required.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must conduct all business with a professional manner and with a high level of confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

  • 5-10 years of experience in the administration, management, supervision, program development/planning/implementation of a fitness/aquatics program preferred.
  • 5-10 years of experience working with older adults preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Represents the company in a positive manner while creating an environment that fosters respect and courtesy for residents, employees, vendors and professional partners alike. Works within the company programs to promote safety and the well-being of all residents and employees.
  • Upholds the company’s Mission Statement.
  • Maintains HIPAA standards in regard to all medical or healthcare information pertaining to residents and employees as confidential.
  • Manages all fitness/aquatics staff; including participation in their hiring, evaluation, recruitment, promotion, and discharge.
  • Reviews needs and desires of residents with DVW to create a list of potential programs to meet said needs and desires. The dimensions of wellness to be included in this discovery are emotional, environmental, intellectual, physical, social, spiritual, and vocational.
  • Designs, implements and oversees determined programs. This includes but is not limited to research, assessment selection or creation, program design, marketing, communication, delivery, and follow-up of program to the residents and/or team members.
  • Participates in daily, weekly, and monthly meetings as determined by DVW.
  • Participates in and/or leads resident classes, programs, or events.
  • Contributes to resident and team member communication with wellness and health related tips and/or content.
  • Oversees and/or assigns resident fitness orientations in the Fitness Room.
  • Oversees and/or assigns the Vitality Discovery process for new and existing residents. This includes but is not limited to assisting with paperwork (health history, goal setting), conducting a Senior Fitness Test, and constructing recommendations for the residents based on an exercise prescription basis.
  • Oversees, contributes to, maintains and reports participation data for the Vitality and Well-being Department; includes daily tracking and data entry into a web-based benchmark system.
  • Advocate for health promotion in the community and serves as a role model to staff and residents exemplifying high professional expertise and health-enhancing behaviors.
  • Occasional travel may be required for training sessions, continuing education opportunities, emergency situations, and other company functions.
  • Responsible for knowledge of fire and safety procedures including those involving blood-borne pathogens.
  • Remains in proper attire at all times and maintains a high standard of appearance.
  • Participates in professional improvement workshops, seminars and meetings which allow continued education on current affairs in active aging, wellness, programming, dementia and Alzheimer’s, and geriatric activity management.
  • Interact well with residents, team members, prospects, vendors, and partners.
  • Maintains excellent resident and employee relations. Handles complaints and recommendations constructively.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Vitality and Well-being.
