About The Position

This is a Grant Funded Position through November 30th, 2027. This position sits within the Office of Violence Prevention which works to reduce homicides and gun violence as well as support the mental health and wellbeing of county residents through trauma-informed approaches. Within the broad ecosystem of community violence prevention and intervention, OVP serves as a backbone organization fostering collaboration among community members, organizations, government entities, and other partners, guiding a public health approach to community violence reduction.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of experience in health education or related field
  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Education or health-related field required
  • Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License
  • Requires County Driving Privileges
  • Annual Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check required
  • Knowledge of Principles and practices of public health
  • Knowledge of Local resources and services
  • Knowledge of Person-centered planning
  • Ability to effectively implement communication and marketing strategies
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to design, develop, and adapt presentations on a variety of health topics targeted toward a diverse audience
  • Good presentation and interpersonal relationship skills

  • Patient Relations: Meeting patient and patient family needs; taking responsibility for a patient’s safety, satisfaction, and clinical outcomes; using appropriate interpersonal techniques to resolve difficult patient situations and regain patient confidence
  • Safety Intervention: Having knowledge of conditions that affect patient, self, and/or employee safety under normal conditions and conditions that occur in crisis situations; skilled in identifying conditions that might cause health or safety hazards and takes action to remove such hazards; understands all aspects of providing a safe environment for patient, self, and/or others in crisis
  • Proficient in various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite

  • Prefer Bachelor degrees in Social Work, Psychology, or other Human Services field

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and facilitate comprehensive community education programs in support of Health Promotion, Communicable Disease Prevention and other MCHD programs
  • Develop educational/media materials related to health promotion strategy to support MCHD programs (i.e. communicable diseases, chronic diseases, nutrition, obesity, physical activity, worksite wellness, tobacco cessation, built environment, etc.)
  • Conduct outreach, marketing and education in the implementation of program
  • Assist in interpreting the Department's program to public, professional and voluntary organizations and groups, and in maintaining cooperative working relationships
  • Give technical and program consultation to management in the Department
  • Plan exhibits, participate in health fairs, and conduct health promotion and public education forum discussions to motivate audiences to understand health issues
  • Serve as resource to assist individuals or other health professionals in the community
  • Work closely with community agencies to provide connection to resources and support for targeted populations to improve their health and general well-being
  • Respond in cases of urgent and/or emergent events that require public health interventions.
  • Employees may be trained for and assigned duties unrelated to their regular work; work outside normal business hours and workdays and/or in a different work location may be required.
  • Emergency events include, but are not limited to, communicable disease outbreaks, severe weather situations (e.g. snow or ice storms, tornados, hurricanes), natural disasters (e.g. earthquakes), fire, or power outages, and acts of terrorism.
