About The Position

The Health Educator Consultant will be responsible for chairing the Safe Kids Marion County Coalition, working with the Marion County Children’s Alliance (MCCA) to oversee the coalition, and submitting reports to MCCA. The role involves coordinating with coalition members and community partners to meet program requirements, expand outreach, and educate residents on various injury prevention topics such as water safety, safe sleep, vehicle safety, fire safety, and sports safety. The employee will develop and disseminate educational materials, seek out and submit grant applications, and be certified as a Car Passenger Technician to install car seats and conduct car seat checks. Additionally, the position involves budget management and purchasing for injury prevention programs, acting as a community liaison by attending meetings and health initiatives, and assisting other health education programs as needed. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Public speaking experience required
  • Ability to develop and deliver health education and community development services to others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Publisher.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication.
  • Ability to design and produce health promotion and public health educational materials.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of community health education.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to write and submit reports.
  • Knowledge of community development, public health, community outreach, or similar experience.
  • Knowledge of basic public health marketing principles.
  • Ability to monitor and evaluate program effectiveness.

  • Skill in operating a personal computer.

  • Valid Florida Drivers License
  • Experience educating/presenting to youth or adults
  • Ability to lift more than 35lbs

Responsibilities

  • Chair the Safe Kids Marion County Coalition as per bylaws and Safe Kids standards.
  • Work with the Marion County Children’s Alliance (MCCA) to oversee the coalition as a workgroup of MCCA.
  • Submit and report Annual Reports to the MCCA and coordinate with MCCA staff for coalition needs.
  • Submit all monthly and project reports and assure all required components of the program are implemented.
  • Coordinate with coalition members and community partners to meet coalition requirements and expand community outreach.
  • Educate Marion County residents on injury prevention topics including water safety, safe sleep, vehicle safety (child safety seats, pedestrian, and bicycle), fire safety, and sports safety.
  • Develop/utilize educational materials pertinent to injury prevention and disseminate them through classes, community events, promotional campaigns, and presentations.
  • Seek out and submit grant applications on behalf of the Florida Department of Health in Marion County injury prevention program and the Safe Kids Marion County Coalition.
  • Be certified as a Car Passenger Technician and install car seats for Marion County residents in addition to car seat checks.
  • Be responsible for purchasing for both the Department of Health injury prevention programs and Safe Kids Marion County.
  • Act as a community liaison by attending community meetings, Safe Kids Marion County and DOH-Marion’s health initiatives at community events.
  • Attend and participate in community meetings and relay any pertinent information to the Health Education Program Manager-SES.
  • Assist the other Health Education programs with community events and program activities as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
