About The Position

The Health Education and Outreach Specialist will support the mission at the SoCal Club by leading educational initiatives, connecting with the community, and providing vital prevention and HIV testing services to young men ages 12-29. The role involves conducting outreach and engagement activities with a special emphasis on Black and Latino youth within the LGBTQ+ community. This includes street-based outreach, public event outreach, social media outreach, and leading health education classes and workshops using established curriculum. The organization, Men's Health Foundation, aims to create greater health equity by reimagining healthcare delivery and breaking down barriers to care, promoting positive sexuality and inclusivity within the LGBTQ+ community.

Requirements

  • Bright, outgoing personality and an ability to proactively engage community members in person and across a variety of media/social media platforms.
  • High school diploma required, or GED completed.
  • Two years of experience working with direct client services in a non-profit setting or outreach/engagement in the private sector for a comparable population demographic.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills; strong written and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Strong commitment to the Mission and Vision of Men’s Health Foundation.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide services to people of diverse races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, gender identities, nationalities, economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, housing status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test, physical, and a background check to include a 7-year criminal, 10-year SSN & employer history reference check.
  • Must be able to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination on the first day of work.

  • Attention to detail.
  • Must take yearly flu shots or wear flu mask during flu season for patient-facing positions and test for tuberculosis as required by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an outreach strategy to increase program engagement among members of the target population.
  • Develop and implement an educational strategy to increase awareness and knowledge among members of the target population.
  • Coordinate SoCal club activities in the space and manage club schedules with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Serve as a public face for the SoCal Club, communicating a confident, sex-positive approach to health care for young gay and bisexual men of color.
  • Participate in community events and meetings to recruit clients, identify resources, and build partnerships.
  • Perform recruitment duties as needed, including visiting partner organizations, canvassing communities, mailers, social media, etc.
  • Effectively communicate the Men’s Health Foundation (MHF) services and programming and the MHF model to support participant goals around holistic health care.
  • Support MHF Program Managers in implementing recruitment and enrollment strategies and benchmarks to ensure enrollment goals per program.
  • Capture, document and track all client recruitment activities in program/department database.
  • Track recruitment outcomes in support of program goals and the strategic growth plan.
  • Participate in program and organizational meetings and activities.
  • Other duties may be assigned, as required.
