About The Position

Guide health education students in the pursuit of their desired health related program at CFCC (open enrollment and selective admission) by assessing their needs, goals, interests, and prior academic experiences. Collaborate with faculty members and Student Services staff to assist students in their enrollment steps and registration in required/relevant general education courses. Understand and interpret selective admissions processes of all Health and Human Services majors at CFCC to help prepare students for their impending application (“Intent to Apply”) and provide “Parallel Planning” resources. Assist in the decision process of applicants for over 17 health science programs (application review and selections). The Health Education Advisor plays a critical role in creating a welcoming and inclusive environment by greeting students, assessing their needs, and ensuring every interaction reflects the college's commitment to excellence in service and radical hospitality.

Requirements

• Knowledge of college policies and procedures regarding Health and Human Services program admission standards and educational program requirements.
• Knowledge of the concepts of adult learning.
• Knowledge of the purpose of academic advising.
• Knowledge of principles and procedures of record keeping.
• Knowledge of modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment.
• Knowledge of English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
• Demonstrate excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
• Maintain an enthusiastic, energetic, and professional demeanor that is welcoming to students, faculty, and staff.
• Actively engage in team building and collaboration within the center and throughout the college.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
• Multi-task, troubleshoot problems, and create conflict resolutions and actively seek guidance from supervisor if needed.
• Refer students to appropriate college staff for additional services as needed
• Evaluate test scores and previous education and training.
• Interpret and apply CFCC goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
• Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, reading and writing, communicating with others, operating assigned equipment, handling varied tasks simultaneously
• Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include standing or sitting for extended periods of time, operating assigned equipment, handling varied tasks simultaneously, bending, stooping, climbing, or lifting up to 50 pounds
• Maintain mental capacity, which allow the capability of making sound decisions, responding to questions, demonstrating intellectual capabilities
• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution related to student services, health education, higher education or related field
• One-year experience working with students in a community college or university setting.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to students who visit the HSEC Center by greeting the students and assisting with check-in.
• Advise students about all aspects of academic requirements with respect to the selection of courses.
• Establish and maintain thorough understanding of Health and Human Services program requirements, including graduation requirements (as described in the information packets).
• Review and interpret placement and other standardized test scores.
• Initiate contact with students to inform and prepare them for general education course selections relevant to their Health and Human Services major.
• Assist students with “Parallel Planning” and consistently develop this concept to be a realistic resource to students who apply to highly selective majors.
• Assist students with learning how to understand the information on program websites, including the various program point count sheets.
• Assist students with the course registration process (including teaching them to interpret program evaluations and use Self-Service registration as needed).
• Assist with communications to students regarding student resources, academic planning, information sessions, and registration.
• Provide students support when appropriate while remaining objective with respect to CFCC’s Health and Human Services program selection processes.
• Assist program faculty at information sessions
• Manage & assist with Nurse Aide inquires/general questions
• Refer students to the appropriate specialized staff for issues such as counseling and/or financial assistance.
• Assist with the application review process (point count review correspondence and point count verification)
• Assist with selection process (ranking, decision correspondence: seat acceptance responses)
• Maintain accurate records of interactions with students and admissions decisions.
• Serve as TEAS liaison (be familiar with test process and import tests daily or as needed)
• Stay abreast of changing institutional information including admissions requirements, new programs, course changes, deadlines and other important dates, costs, etc.
• Disseminate information on institutional policies and procedures.
• Engage in professional development activities.
• Participate in the HSEC’s planning, implementation, and evaluation of goals and objectives.
• Participate in Student Services programs.
• Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned
