The Department of Economics at Rice University invites applications for an open-rank tenured or tenure-track faculty position in Health Economics, beginning July 1, 2027. The position is based in Houston, Texas. Assistant Professor candidates must have completed a Ph.D. in Economics or a closely related field by the appointment date. Associate or Full Professor candidates should have a record of scholarship commensurate with appointment at that rank at a leading research department. The department seeks a scholar whose research addresses substantive questions in health economics, broadly defined. Areas may include the industrial organization of health care markets, health insurance design, determinants and consequences of health over the life cycle, and evaluation of health policy. The successful candidate will join an established health economics group and have opportunities to collaborate across Rice University, including with the Baker Institute for Public Policy and Population Health, and with institutions in the Texas Medical Center. Responsibilities include research, teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and service to the Department and University. Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, job market paper or representative publications, and a teaching statement. Applications received by November 15, 2026, will receive full consideration. Rice also seeks greater representation in its candidate pools of women, scholars of color, people with disabilities, veterans, and others historically underrepresented in Economics.
