The Emory Center for Neurodegenerative Disease, in partnership with the Department of Biochemistry at Emory University School of Medicine, seeks a basic and/or translational scientist for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position. Outstanding candidates will be considered at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank. The position is intended for investigators applying innovative biochemical, proteomic, imaging, biophysical, or related approaches to fundamental and translational questions in neurodegenerative disease. The department is especially interested in candidates developing or applying cutting-edge spatial proteomics, spatial biology, advanced imaging, mass spectrometry, and new biochemical technologies to investigate molecular and cellular mechanisms of neurodegeneration. Areas of interest include Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, frontotemporal degeneration, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and other neurodegenerative disorders. Candidates should bring a strong mechanistic and biochemical perspective. Relevant research may address protein aggregation and proteostasis, molecular interactions, post-translational modifications, cellular and subcellular proteomics, spatially resolved molecular profiling, biomarker and target discovery, structural biology, or innovative imaging and analytical technologies. Research bridging fundamental biochemistry with approaches for defining disease mechanisms in cells, tissues, and human biospecimens is welcomed. Applicants developing or applying human iPSC-derived cell systems and next-generation disease models—including neuronal and glial models, multicellular systems, organoids, and blood-brain barrier and neurovascular models—are particularly encouraged. The Center and Department offer a collaborative research environment with access to expertise and infrastructure in proteomics, spatial biology, advanced microscopy and imaging, structural biology, and molecular and cellular biochemistry, including mass spectrometry and cryo-EM. Additional resources are available through Emory Integrated Core Facilities, and collaboration opportunities extend across Emory and with Georgia Tech and the University of Georgia. Candidates must hold a Ph.D., M.D. (or equivalent) and have postdoctoral experience in a relevant discipline. Selection will consider scientific productivity appropriate to career stage, primary research publications, current and/or potential future extramural funding, scientific synergy with Emory, a compelling future research vision, and potential contributions to graduate and postdoctoral education and mentoring. Successful candidates are expected to establish or maintain a dynamic, independent, externally funded research program advancing biochemical and molecular understanding of neurodegenerative disease. Applicants must apply online and submit a single PDF containing a cover letter, curriculum vitae with complete bibliography, contact information for three references, a research statement of fewer than three pages, and a statement of fewer than one page describing how lived experiences have informed mentoring approaches and/or career goals. Position tasks are generally performed in person at an Emory University location; remote-work options may be granted at department discretion and may be changed with notice.
