About The Position

This role focuses on developing and implementing health career programs within the West AHEC 14-county area. The specialist will coordinate the HRSA/KY AHEC Scholars Program, promote Health Careers Pipeline Programs (HCPP) at various universities, and develop recruitment programs including summer camps and other experiential learning opportunities. The position also involves preparing reports, researching health career educational requirements, and maintaining a safe and positive work environment. Confidentiality of patient and student information is paramount. Experience with social media for marketing is also a key aspect of this role.

  • Maintain the confidentiality of a patients' medical condition, Medical Center records and student information.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement innovative school health career programs in the West AHEC 14 county area by establishing planning committees, tracking strategies, evaluation measures, when working cooperatively with other health care and community organizations.
  • Coordinate the HRSA/KY AHEC Scholars Program, including program promotion, recruitment, curriculum development, classroom oversight, planning experiential training opportunities, program management and evaluation.
  • Promote Health Careers Pipeline Programs (HCPP) at the University of Louisville, University of Kentucky and Pikeville School of Osteopathic Medicine in the recruitment of students.
  • Develop and implement innovative school and community health career recruitment programs in the West AHEC area (fourteen counties), for example: including but not limited to: a) summer camps; b) Math & Science Camp; c) Operation Preparation program evaluation.
  • Prepare AHEC reports as needed. Included but not limited to preparing quarterly report information, tracking students and program evaluation.
  • Research to gain or possess specific knowledge of the health career educational requirements for various health professions.
  • Facilitate summer camps, shadowing and experiential learning opportunities for interested high school students.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and adhere to safety standards established by departmental and our policy. Make every effort to correct or report safety hazards and potentially unsafe working conditions to the proper authority.
