About The Position

Reporting to the Health and Safety Director, the Health and Safety Coordinator (Canada Summer Job) will support the maintenance and development of our internal health and safety program, working to improve the health and safety of workers across all our locations. This is a full-time, seasonal position for 8 weeks, with a schedule of 35 hours per week.

  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
  • Not a member of the Immediate Family of the Employer or a member of the Immediate Family of an officer or director of the Employer

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Health and Safety Director with the maintenance of our health and safety program.
  • Fostering a positive occupational health and safety culture within the organization by being a safety ambassador, leading by example, creating and sharing engaging safety presentations/meetings/bulletins/topics, encouraging safety dialogue/communication, and addressing safety questions and concerns.
  • Supporting with site inspections, identifying hazards, and recommending corrective actions.
  • Reviewing and responding promptly to incidents, working with the Health and Safety Director to investigate and implement preventative measures.
  • Maintaining and updating safety software as needed: staff profiles/permissions, training records, incidents, inspections, and statistics.
  • Conducting research and gathering information as needed.
  • Assisting with implementing new health and safety initiatives.
  • Assisting with health and safety manual updates as needed.
  • Assisting with safety policy and procedure development as needed.
  • Assisting with safety policy and procedure reviews and updates as needed.
  • Assisting with formal hazard assessments as needed.
  • Assisting with fire and emergency response plans as needed.
  • Ensuring appropriate PPE is available across the organization as required.
  • Training: Leading safety orientations, in-person and online; Providing leader training on safety requirements and responsibilities; Assisting with the development of internal training modules/presentations; Coordinating internal and external safety training as needed; Providing ongoing safety guidance and support.
  • Establishing, coordinating, or maintaining health and safety committees across AB, BC, and SK: Ensuring committees are in compliance with provincial legislation; Leading, attending, or supporting online health and safety committee meetings; Recruiting new committee members as needed; Scheduling committee meetings; Preparing meeting agendas; Recording committee meeting minutes.
  • Working with leaders to ensure compliance for each site by completing/reviewing/updating formal site-specific hazard assessments, completing/reviewing/updating site-specific emergency response procedures, confirming emergency response drills are being conducted as required, establishing or maintaining health and safety committee representation, completing site inspections as required, and completing timely incident investigations.
  • Administrative support: Data entry and other clerical tasks; Maintaining and organizing or updating files and databases; Responding to emails and other inquiries; Coordinating meetings and events; Preparing correspondence, documents, spreadsheets, reports, and presentations; Scheduling meetings, appointments, and travel arrangements; Conducting research and gathering information.
  • Other duties as assigned.
